The American Indian Studies Research Institute coordinates research and publications on North American Indians at Indiana University, Bloomington, and provides a center and facilities for faculty and graduate students to pursue individual research projects. The Institute publishes a monograph series, "Studies in the Anthropology of North American Indians," and co-publishes the journal Anthropological Linguistics, which focuses on American Indian languages. Much recent work of the Institute staff has involved the development of computer software for American Indian language study, including both tools for scholarly analysis and for the preparation of camera-ready copy for publication. Current projects include linguistic, literary, and historical studies of several Plains and Midwestern Indian tribes.
