The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University increases the understanding of philanthropy and improves its practice.

Every culture depends on philanthropy and nonprofit organizations to provide essential elements of civil society. Effective philanthropy and nonprofit management are instrumental in creating and maintaining public confidence in the philanthropic traditions -- voluntary association, voluntary giving, and voluntary action. The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University increases the understanding of philanthropy and improves its practice through programs in research, teaching, public service, and public affairs.

The research staff at the Center works with Indiana University faculty in Philanthropic Studies and other experts to conduct funded research projects in the nonprofit sector. Possibilities include:
1) Complete studies, including surveys of household giving; analysis of corporate and foundation giving; ethnographic or focus group research; and evaluation of organizational effectiveness;
2) Consultation about study design;
3) Assessment of organizational capacity and fundraising potential;
4) Literature reviews as background or preparation for a study;
5) Analysis of data from your organization, another source, or data that COP has already collected to explore new questions; and
6) Presentations about giving trends.

Inquiries about costs and services available should go to Patrick M. Rooney, director of research.
