CREDLI is charged with promoting research and development activities in foreign/second language instruction. CREDLI also serves as liaison among the various units that deliver foreign/second language instruction (including the ESL/EFL program) and provides technological support, for example with the language laboratory. In the absence of a language center at Indiana University Bloomington CREDLI assumes various coordination and promotion functions that individual language departments and language area studies programs cannot conduct themselves.
