The Center was established with generous funding from the Indiana 21st Century Research and Technology Fund and the National Science Foundation. The Center conducts research, academic training, and technology transfer. In the research area, focus is on: 1) identification of genes, proteins, and interactions that mediate tissue regeneration; 2) model systems include amphibians -- organisms that can regenerate blood, bone, muscle, skin, intestines, spinal cord, heart muscle, retina and lens, jaws, tails, limbs, etc. Collaborating units include the IUPUI School of Science, Indiana University School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, and industry partners, such as Eli Lilly and Company.
