Jim Becker, Director of Contracts & Grant
Administration, is responsible for all post-award compliance
and reporting for sponsored programs at Indiana University.
He coordinates with pre-award offices and other university
departments to develop policies, procedures and guidelines
related to sponsored research at IU, and his office
implements strategies for monitoring sponsored programs
for compliance with agency guidelines, federal and state
regulations, and university policies.

Geoffrey Conrad,
Professor of Anthropology and Director of the William Hammond Mathers Museum , is the Special Advisor for the Humanities . Professor Conrad furthers the development of research and scholarly activities in the humanities as well as manages the New Frontiers Arts & Humanities initiatives and the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipend internal competition.

Marcia Landen, Executive Director of Sponsored Research Services, manages the operations of the SRS office serving the Bloomington and regional campuses. She provides leadership for proposals submitted and awards received for external funding that are in accordance with university policy, agency guidelines, and federal and state regulations. She represents the pre-award office in the development of policies, procedures, and educational initiatives related to external funding.

Scott Long, Associate Vice Provost for the Social Sciences, is a Chancellor's Professor of Sociology and Statistics. Previous administrative positions include Chair of Sociology and Chair of the Departmental Formation Committee for Statistics. His work in the sociology of science focuses on processes that affect achievement in science, and most recently, this work has focused on factors that affect the career outcomes of women in science. In his new role in OVPR, Scott will oversee the Bureau of Social Sciences Research.

Steve Martin, Associate
Vice President for Research, has responsibility
for research administration on the Bloomington campus, including proposal and
award services and institutional reporting. In fulfilling
these objectives he provides leadership in the development
of policies, procedures, educational initiatives, reporting
and analysis, planning, compliance and electronic initiatives. He
oversees the Sponsored
Research Services office at IU Bloomington.

Kathleen McNeely, Assistant Vice President
of Finance and the Executive Director of Financial Management
Services, has university wide responsibility for post-award
administration. Contract & Grant Administration
is responsible for post-award compliance and reporting
for sponsored programs at all campuses of Indiana University.
Kathleen provides fiscal oversight and leadership in
the development of post-award policies, procedures and
guidelines related to sponsored research.

Judith Palmer,Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer, oversees all financial operations for the seven
campuses of Indiana University. Miss Palmer is based
at the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses of IU
The Office of the Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer is charged with the overall fiduciary and management
responsibility for Indiana University’s finances:
Providing stewardship and accountability for all
the university’s financial resources; establishing
appropriate financial policies and procedures; providing
leadership in effective and efficient financial management
across the university; and, promoting long and short
range financial planning and resource management.
Miss Palmer is also the Treasurer for Indiana University
Research Technology Institute and serves on the Kelley
Executive Partners’ Board of Directors. In addition,
she is Associate Professor part-time, School of Public
and Environmental Affairs, a position she has held since
1985.

Christopher Peebles, Professor of
Anthropology and Director of the Glenn A. Black Laboratory
of Archaeology, is the Special Advisor for Research
Centers and Institutes. Professor Peebles will undertake
a comprehensive review of existing research centers
and institutes, assist with their external reviews,
and facilitate the establishment of new research centers
and institutes. Professor Peebles will also assist faculty
in their search for external funds.

Sarita Soni,
Vice Provost for Research and Professor of Optometry and Co-Director of the Borish Center for Ophthalmic Research, is responsibile for research development activities. Professor Soni helps to coordinate and develop research across disciplines and schools at IU Bloomington and elsewhere in the university, with a focus on the professional schools and developing relationships with the School of Medicine . In addition, Professor Soni works with Michael McRobbie, the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on the Bloomington campus. She also works with several associate vice provosts and special advisors to develop strategies to pursue external funding across all areas of research and scholarly activity. Professor Soni is responsible for the Special State Research Fund, Faculty Research Support Program, IU/Purdue Collaboration in Life Sciences and Informatics Research Pilot Grant Program, and oversees all of the internal grant programs that are administered by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research.

Ruth Stone, Associate Vice Provost for the Arts, is Laura Boulton Professor of Ethnomusicology and African Studies at Indiana University in Bloomington . She has also chaired the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology and served as the Director of the Archives of Traditional Music. She has also served as co-project director for the EVIA Digital Archive, an electronic resource that is designed to be accessible over Internet2 and is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Indiana University , and the University of Michigan .

Eric Swank, Research Compliance Advisor, is a legal position in the Office of Research Compliance, reporting to the Associate Vice Provost for the Life Sciences . Eric advises University faculty and staff throughout the system on issues relating to research, including research integrity, the use of human and animal subjects, conflicts of interest, intellectual property and technology transfer matters, bio safety, data access, contract and grant provisions, and export controls. He regularly participates in educational programs for faculty, administrators, and students on research topics.

Jeffrey R. White, Associate Vice Provost for Research, serves as Research Integrity Officer and is responsible for life sciences research and the research integrity offices at IUB. Areas reporting to him include lab animal resources, lab safety and the office of human subjects. He is professor of environmental science with appointments in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and in the Department of Geological Sciences. Previous administrative positions include Director of the Ph.D. Program in Environmental Science, Chair of Environmental Science, and Associate Dean of SPEA-Bloomington.
