Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

The Bloomington Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (BIACUC) oversees the University's animal care and use program and is responsible for:

  • reviewing all animal use protocols
  • ensuring compliance with federal regulations
  • inspecting animal facilities and laboratories and
  • overseeing animal use training and educational programs

The Committee recognizes that the federal regulations and our interpretations of the regulations can be daunting to an investigator on first encounter. The Committee will provide whatever assistance it can to investigators or departments to explain our procedures and to secure compliance with a minimum of delay or disruption of research. We welcome suggestions for improvement - feel free to send an e-mail message or to call 855-5138.
