This flowchart is intended to help you determine whether you are required to seek approval from OHRPP or the IRB for your research project. The first question is stated simply: 

Does the project you are planning meet the Federal definition of "research"  and it does it involve "human subject" (again, as defined by the Federal Government)? 

If the answer to both questions is "Yes," then you are required to submit certain paperwork to the Human Subjects Committee before you begin collecting data.
